Viper Athlete "Spotlight"

Raquel "Rocky" Ortiz was born on March 26th 1993.  She has been a Viper player since she was 9 years old.  She started playing on her dads' team Temecula 12 Elite-Tommy and quickly picked up the game of volleyball.  She received several awards as an 8, 9, 10 and 11 year old.  She was awarded the coaches award in 2002 and 2003.  While in her third year as a 12 Elite team member she received the Setter's Award.  In her final season as a 12 Elite team member in 2005, she was named Team MVP.

As Rocky progressed up to the 14s division she was a member of Temecula 14 Elite and was presented the 2006 Best Server Award.  In 2007, she was selected to be the only freshman on her Varsity High School team, Vista Murrieta.  This same year, she was the libero for Temecula 14 Steve, who won the Volleyball Festival in Reno, Nevada.  In 2008,  she was the only 15 year old on Temecula 18 Vemma who earned their way to the Junior Olympics in Dallas Texas.  Temecula 18 Vemma placed 5th in the American division and it was largely in part to Rocky dedication, commitment and desire as the Libero.  She was selected to the All-American all-tournament team as a 15 year old!

Rocky's game is very well rounded.  She loves to play beach volleyball as well.  Her biggest accomplishments on the sand are; 2nd place in Roxy tournament with partner Terra Varney, 1st play at AAU invitational with partner Natalie "book-out" Gonzales and a 2nd place in an AAU tournament with partner Allison Cook.

Rocky is also taking care of business in the classroom with a GPA of 3.67 and her athleticism and talent she will be able to choose the school she wants to attend and play volleyball.  She aspires to be a Pediatrician and her top five college choices right now include: 1. Sacred Heart, 2. UCLA, 3. USC, 4. Stanford, 5. West Virginia.

On the personal side of Rocky there is no better meal than her "mommy's lasagna".   She has two siblings, four-year-old twins Thomas and Emily.  Her mom Stacy and dad, exclusive Viper coach, Tommy are her biggest supporters.  Rocky states "Tommy is the key to all my volleyball success because he taught me everything I know and pushes me to do my best no matter what."

Rocky's favorite celebrity is Misty May because May is positive and a great role model to kids.  "...and she has won many awards."

Rocky's favorite movie is The Lion King and when asked if she could be any character in the movie who would it be and why.  She responded, "Simba!!!! Because he is cute, brave and strong."  Her favorite song is Live your Life, by Rhianna.

Whenever, she is not playing volleyball, studying, babysitting her twin siblings or at school, Rocky likes to hang out with her friends, go to movies and perfect her skills on the alleys of Brunswick Bowling.

Postural Solutions (PSI) Prepares to Train Viper Athletes
train smart. play hard.

            Did you know?
  • #2 Ranked University of Nebraska Women’s Volleyball Team,
  • #4 Ranked UCLA Women’s Volleyball Team,
  • #16 Ranked Point Loma Nazarene University Women’s Volleyball Team,
  • And for the 2nd year running, VIPER VOLLEYBALL all train with a focus on Posture, Function, and Alignment using The Egoscue Method®

There is a clear reason these top-notch volleyball programs utilize the same training program provided to Viper Volleyball by PSI: It Works! We believe by training the body to function bilaterally, to recruit the proper muscles to safely and effectively execute the physical demands of volleyball, your players will get even closer to realizing their full athletic potential.

PSI is the only therapy clinic in the valley employing The Egoscue Method® of postural alignment and we are excited to get back to work with Viper this winter. At the conclusion of the 2007-2008 season we were thrilled to see a club-wide average improvement of 15% in all areas of athletic ability. Because of your exceptional work ethic and determination we witnessed a significant increase in vertical leap (with several players improving 3-4 inches), flexibility, and agility with fewer injuries leading to 3 teams qualifying for the Junior Olympics. Congratulations to you all!

This off-season we have revamped our training program and will be looking to take your athletes to the next level. We encourage you to go to www.posturalsolutions.com to learn more about our training and to contact us with any questions or comments you might have.

Stay Functional,
